From the 1930s to the 1960s he sold 60 million records and in 1959 became the frst artist to havesix albums in the American Top 30 at the same time. In 1954 Mantovani recorded his greatest hit Cara Miawherein he employed a female choir. A string of big sellers included on Golden Treasures followed. Mantovanisfrst hit in America was in 1951 when he recorded the 1920s ballad Charmaine and developed it into a rich andmelliuous orchestral score that instantly became his signature tune
